Further research (Materials for construction: Clay plasters)
In this post, I will be sharing a material that can be used with the rammed earth, which is clay plasters.
Clay plasters are suitable for the house's exterior because they are used on rammed earth walls and will not damage the wall's structure (Eyeson, 2023). Following this, there are plenty of benefits of using clay plasters, such as their warm natural tones, which fit the theme of the house, a "modern-day suburban house". Furthermore, it is an eco-friendly recyclable material; clay plasters give out a small CO2 footprint, which helps the sustainability value of the house. Next, clay plasters are safe to touch and antibacterial (Indrek. Kerbo, 2023). This material is safe for people to touch and mainly prevents children from getting any allergies from touching the walls. This is crucial because the purpose of the house is to make a comfortable and safe environment for family households, mainly the next generation of Cromwell town.
As for the aesthetic value of using clay plaster, it has a rich range of clay tones (Indrek. Kerbo, 2023), which residents can choose between various types. Paired with asphalt shingles as the materials for the roof, the design will be a minimalist yet elegant touch to the house's exterior. Regarding sustainability, clay plasters are easy to repair, making them a low-maintenance material that can last for decades (Indrek. Kerbo, 2023). It can also regulate room temperature (Indrek. Kerbo, 2023), which helps keep the inside of the house cool during hot and sunny days while keeping the inside warm and comfortable during a cold winter night.
This makes clay plasters suitable for the house's exterior walls. In my next post, I will include additional research to ensure the smooth journey of my project.
