Idea Development: Initial Designs
In this post, I will share some initial designs of my family home for my AP2 project.
As seen in Fig.1, these are some of the initial designs of my family home. Inspired by the Skillion roof design, I incorporated the Skillion roof as the main roof for the house in the first three drawings. Skillion Roof is a resilient, flexible, and powerful residential construction (Norelldesign, 2021). This roof design is popular for its elegance and minimalism, fitting perfectly into contemporary homes. My target market is families of four, so I make sure to create enough space in the house by adding an extra structure on the skillion roof in drawings 1 and 3. This allows for a second floor, giving more space inside the house. For drawing 2, I considered adding a chimney, as it's a common feature in standard suburban homes in the United States and can be useful during the winter. However, the design and features of the house should be more modern to fit current trends. As for the fourth drawing, I added an upside-down triangle on top of the skillion roof, which makes the design more unique and contrasts with other houses we have seen before. However, this design is rather complicated to achieve despite being a unique design.
In Fig.2, these are more initial designs for my family home. As mentioned before, drawings 1,2 and 3 are inspired by the skillion roof design. It is also worth mentioning that in Fig.1, drawing 1,2 and 3, and in Fig.2, drawings 1,2, and 3, I added a dividing wall to separate the house from the houses next to it. I changed the size and length of the wall as I saw fit to the designs that I was drawing. The idea of a dividing wall is not just for aesthetic purposes but also to provide more privacy to the family. For the fourth drawing, I went for a different style of house. The design I had in mind was a standard modern house, as seen in many modern house designs by famous architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright. It is a two story building with balconies at the top floor. This design is good however it has nothing special about it. Since the design is commonly seen in other modern house designs.
I am eagerly looking forward to carefully analyzing the initial designs above and deciding which design I will go for or any changes I will make for my final design. This exciting process will be shared in my next post.

Good post in terms of showing how you have been thinking about a range of elements regarding your design.
ReplyDeleteThese are interesting designs and we have discussed them in detail in the class, but it would be good to see the evidence of the development of each of these designs before getting to this point. Development of your ideas is part of your marking criteria......and as you need 45%+ the more you do of this the better chance of passing the module.
