Further research (Materials for construction: Asphalt shingles)
In this post, I will be sharing the materials used for the roof of my project.
After careful research, I have chosen asphalt shingles as the material for the roof of my project (as seen in Fig.1). This is because asphalt shingles are not expensive, making it a good option for homeowners on a budget. Asphalt shingles also fit any building style, such as a modern or a suburban house. Asphalt shingles are also easy to install and replace when they need fixing or replacing (Central et al. | Alameda, CA Roofing Contractor, 2017). This will make it very easy for homeowners to replace them because they can be replaced individually. Residents can call a maintenance specialist to replace them or replace them themselves. This can reduce the cost of repairs to the house if needed. This type of roof also has good ventilation, making the house cooler in the summer and preventing rainwater from leaking into the house. This type of roofing is suitable for the project mainly because of its cost efficiency and benefits.
The materials, including the rammed earth (as mentioned in my previous post), can be locally sourced. This strategic decision not only aids in the timely construction of the project but also significantly reduces the transportation of raw materials, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability. For instance, rammed earth can be sourced from Steel River Buildings Systems, Inc., which has one of its factories located in Connecticut. Similarly, glass windows and asphalt shingles can be procured from Turner & Sons, which also has its factory in Connecticut.
